Luke Fischer commits to Indiana

Published by Source on January 1st, 2012

Indiana sent out 2011 in style by upsetting #2 Ohio State Saturday night in Assembly Hall 74-70. The win was the second big time upset in Bloomington this year, as the Hoosiers had already upset then #1 Kentucky back on December 10th.

The upset is already paying recruiting dividends, as the Hoosiers landed a commitment this morning from Luke Fischer (2013, Germantown WI). The big man from Wisconsin becomes the third member of Tom Crean’s 2013 class, which already features Indianapolis prospects Collin Hartman and Devin Davis Jr. We will have a much more in depth profile on Fischer later this evening. Rivals ranks Fischer as the #140 overall prospect in the 2013 class, about the same place they ranked sophomore Hoosiers Victor Oladipo and Will Sheehey in 2010.

With Saturday’s win, the Hoosiers became the first team since 2009-10 to beat a #1 and #2 team in the same season (both Louisville and and Tennessee did it that season). Even more impressive, they became the first team to accomplish that feat in the same month since Kansas did it in the 2008 Final Four.
