Interview with 2014 SF Malek Harris

Among the prospects visiting Indiana University this past weekend was 2014 SF Malek Harris (Sandburg HS / Orland Park, IL). I got a chance to speak with Harris about his visit and where he is at in the recruiting process.

The unofficial visit to Bloomington is the latest development for the 6’7″ Harris, who has been picking up interest from programs in the Big Ten and beyond. With offers from Miami (OH), Iowa and DePaul, the list of schools interested also includes Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, Louisville, Marquette, St. John’s, Oregon State and Creighton.

“The visit went great,” he said of his trip to IU. He get to check out the team’s workout and then scrimmage with some of the current players. “It was just a great experience and I learned a lot from Indiana.”

Conference play got underway for most of the college basketball world this week. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday featured some high quality match-ups in the B1G, Big East, MAC, Horizon and Missouri Valley. 1 Weekend Down!

One weekend down and all 12 B1G teams have officially kicked off their seasons. Also, the local Big East teams Marquette, DePaul and Notre Dame have gotten things going as well, in addition to all the local mid-major programs.

All 12 B1G teams have won a game so far except for Michigan State, who fell to top-ranked North Carolina in the Carrier Classic Friday night, 67-55. The schedule does not get easier yet for the Spartans, who travel to Madison Square Garden to face #6 Duke in the Champions Classic Tuesday night. Also facing off that night are #2 Kentucky and #12 Kansas in the new event that will feature these four teams for the next several seasons as they all get the opportunity to play each other.

Indiana has emerged as the “first place” team after a 2-game weekend with wins over Stony Brook (96-66 on Fri.) and Chattanooga (78-53 on Sun.). All other conference teams besides MSU and IU are 1-0, with the game results as follows:

Newest Husker: PG Benny Parker (2012)

Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler landed the fourth member of his 2012 class on Wednesday when Benny Parker gave him and the Huskers his verbal pledge. Parker, from Sumner Academy in Kansas City, is as pure of a point guard as there is.

The areas at which he most excels are facilitating the offense and locking down on defense. At just 5-8, Parker is going to have a major heigh disadvantage in college when it comes to driving the lane and hitting contested jumpers. But Parker will still make an immediate impact with his ability to be a true leader on the court and make things happen for his teammates.
