The College Basketball Invitational is a relatively new event, entering its 5th season this week. A handful of local teams will be participating in the event, headlined by back-to-back defending National Runner-Up Butler. The opening round games are played at the home teams’ arena, as is the second round. After the first two rounds, the teams are re-seeded for the semifinals. The finals of this tournament are actually a best-of-3 series, a rarity in basketball. A few power conference teams made the field, including Oregon State and Washington State from the Pac-12 and the underachieving Pittsburgh Panthers from the Big East.
On Tuesday, the Evansville Aces (16-15) will host Princeton (19-11) at 8pm/7cst (game will be broadcast on HDNet). At the same time, the Milwaukee Panthers (20-13) will head south to face TCU (17-14).
The Butler Bulldogs (20-14) opens the tournament by hosting Delaware (18-13) on Wednesday at 8/7c (HDNet). Summit League Tournament runner-up Western Illinois (18-14) will head to Corvallis to face the Oregon State Beavers (19-14) on Wednesday at 10/9c (HDNet).
