ESPN The Magazine Preseason Power Rankings

ESPN The Magazine, along with David Hanner from RealGM.com, have used mathematical formulas and statistics (like returning players, injuries, coaching and recruit/transfer talent level. After doing the calculations, the Magazine ranked ALL 344 Division-1 basketball programs in order.

Below, we have listed the Top-10 programs according to the Magazine, plus all other local programs that you readers are here to find out more about! If you want to see the whole list, just click the link above (PDF format). Following each team is where they are projected to finish in their prospective conference.

Powerade Fab 50 Preseason List

ESPNHS has released its preseason Powerade Fab 50, a list of the 50 best boy’s high school basketball teams in the country. There are a number of Illinois and Indiana teams on the list, as well as plenty of teams with players committed to or being recruited by B1G and Chicago-area colleges. Here’s the highlights of the list:

 

1. Simeon Career Academy (Chicago, IL)

- Chicago powerhouse Simeon landed the well-deserved top spot on this year’s list. Behind outstanding junior Jabari Parker, considered by some to be the best player in the 2013 class, the Wolverines lineup features several other highly-touted prospects. Senior Steve Taylor is already committed to Marquette, while junior Kendrick Nunn recently re-opened his recruitment after making an early pledge to Texas A&M. Also joining the group is junior point guard Jaylon Tate, who transferred to Simeon from De La Salle this past summer. Tate has been hearing from most of the B1G already, plus hometown DePaul, and has already landed an offer from Northwestern.

Kendrick Nunn back on the market

2013 Simeon star Kendrick Nunn is back on the recruiting market after decommitting from Texas A&M earlier this week. Nunn, who announced the news via Twitter, committed to the Aggies back on August 7 in what many thought was a suprise choice.

Nunn plays at Simeon with another 2013 star, Jabari Parker. College coaches from all over the country have been flooding the Simeon gym in the past weeks to watch Parker and his teammates work out, but things are going to get a lot more crazy now that Nunn is available again.

Scouting the Three B’s

Michigan’s 2011 Recruiting class of Trey Burke, Carlton Brundidge, and Max Bielfeldt

Burke is the headliner of the 2011 class for the Wolverines, not because of his high ranking, but rather due to the fact that he will be asked to play a monumental role this season.  After losing superstar PG Darius Morris to the NBA, a guy who was top five in the country in assists and Michigan’s leading scorer, Burke clearly has some big shoes to fill.  The 6’1” floor general that was awarded the honor of Mr. Basketball in Ohio is known for his quick offense, but also for his excellent vision and ball-handling.

Michigan opens the 2011 campaign in what is annually the toughest early season tournament: The Maui Invitational.  Joining the Wolverines will be Duke, Georgetown, Kansas, Memphis, Tennessee, UCLA and host Chaminade, making this tournament one of the strongest fields in recent history.  This tall test will be key in judging how well Burke will be able to acclimate himself to the NCAA game.  Look for senior Stu Douglass to get the bulk of the minutes at PG in Hawaii, with Burke entering in a backup role to start the year.  The key to how high the Wolverines can fly this year just may be contingent on how quickly Burke can make himself the #1 option at point.
