Powerade Fab 50 Preseason List

Published by Source on October 20th, 2011

ESPNHS has released its preseason Powerade Fab 50, a list of the 50 best boy’s high school basketball teams in the country. There are a number of Illinois and Indiana teams on the list, as well as plenty of teams with players committed to or being recruited by B1G and Chicago-area colleges. Here’s the highlights of the list:

1. Simeon Career Academy (Chicago, IL)

- Chicago powerhouse Simeon landed the well-deserved top spot on this year’s list. Behind outstanding junior Jabari Parker, considered by some to be the best player in the 2013 class, the Wolverines lineup features several other highly-touted prospects. Senior Steve Taylor is already committed to Marquette, while junior Kendrick Nunn recently re-opened his recruitment after making an early pledge to Texas A&M. Also joining the group is junior point guard Jaylon Tate, who transferred to Simeon from De La Salle this past summer. Tate has been hearing from most of the B1G already, plus hometown DePaul, and has already landed an offer from Northwestern.

B1G / Chicago Recruiting Tidbits – Friday 9/23

Published by Source on September 23rd, 2011

Every Friday we will release a list of small recruiting news “nuggets” or “tidbits” they deserve mention on this site but do not necessarily require full articles. Here is this Friday’s edition of Recruiting Tidbits:

* Illinois State scored a commitment from North Chicago point guard Aaron Simpson on Wednesday afternoon. The 6-0, 170 lb Simpson is a solid prospect for the Redbirds. He has a variety of tools at point guard, being able to run the floor and facilitate, but he can also put up points. Simpson has a solid outside shot and holds the ability to get in the lane and mix it up. Several high major programs were interested in Simpson throughout his recruitment, including DePaul, Marquette, Illinois and Purdue. He is the second member of the ISU 2012 class for head coach Tim Jankovich, joining local guard prospect Anthony Beane.

B1G / Chicago Recruiting Tidbits – Friday 9/16

Published by Source on September 16th, 2011

Every Friday we will release a list of small recruiting news “nuggets” or “tidbits” they deserve mention on this site but do not necessarily require full articles. Here is this Friday’s edition of Recruiting Tidbits:

* DePaul has added a late member to its 2011 recruiting class in JUCO point guard Worrell Clahar. The 6-foot junior comes to Chicago from Lawson State CC (Alabama) and will have 2 years of eligibility with the Blue Demons. The commitment actually happened over Labor Day weekend, but got lost in the shuffle by yours truly. Apologies on that one!

* Chicago’s Simeon Career Academy was the place to be for college coaches on Wednesday night as all eyes were on 2013 star Jabari Parker. In the house to see Parker were head coaches and/or assistants from over 20 D1 schools, headlined by Mike Krzyzewski (plus 2 Duke assistants), Tom Izzo, Roy Williams, Thad Matta (plus assistant), Bill Self (plus assistant), Bruce Weber (plus assistant), Oliver Purnell and Larry Krystkowiak (Utah). Several other local schools were represented, including Chicago State, UIC, Valpo, Illinois State and Northern Illinois. The workout also featured Marquette commit and Steve Taylor (2012) and Texas A&M verbal Kendrick Nunn (2013).

* Indiana commitment Peter Jurkin (2012) has been out of basketball for most of the last year with a stress fracture in his leg. Inside The Hall is reporting that Jurkin is now back at full strength after missing most of his junior season and the entire AAU evaluation period.

Indiana commitment profiles – 2012 Frontcourt

Published by Source on August 19th, 2011

By: Kyle Dunne

On Monday, we looked at three of Tom Crean’s incoming Hoosier players. That backcourt preview featured Indianapolis products Yogi Ferrell, Jeremy Hollowell and Ron Patterson. Today we head to the front court as we profile the two remaining members of Indiana’s 2012 class. Both are foreign-born players but have deep Indiana connections as products of the A-HOPE program and Indiana Elite.

 Hanner Perea

6-8 * 210 * PF

La Lumiere (La Porte, IN)

Rivals (5* #15) – Scout (4* #37)- ESPN (4* #48)

6’8’’ Colombia-native Hanner Perea has unbelievable raw athletic ability. At any given moment he has the potential to electrify his team and the crowd with any of a ridiculous array of dunks. While his back to the basket game needs some development, once Hanner is around the rim he knows how to finish. On the defensive side of the ball, Hanner is a tremendous shot blocker and alters numerous other shots that he isn’t able to get to. His leaping ability contributes to his exceptional rebounding. His post up defense does have room for improvement but Hanner should be an immediate upgrade to the Hoosiers on both sides of the court. Hanner currently attends La Lumiere High School in La Porte, Indiana. (more…)
