All-American Championship Rosters Announced

Published by Source on March 1st, 2012

Earlier today, Scout.com’s Evan Daniels posted the rosters for the upcoming All-American Championship. The event, which takes place Sunday April 1st at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, features four teams of prep players from across the country. Players are divided onto the four teams (East, West, North and South) and two games are played (East-West at 3pm EST and North-South afterwards). For the second year in a row, the event is held in the same city and during the same weekend as the NCAA Final Four (March 31-April 2 at the Superdome in NOLA).

High school recruits are allowed participate in two sanctioned All-Star events per year. Several of the players in this event were ineligible for the McDonald’s All-American game, while others were simply not chosen.

The B1G is well-represented, with the North roster being comprised entirely of future B1G players and one more headed to Notre Dame. What is interesting about this event is that it is open to both seniors and juniors (7 of the 38 players are in the class of 2013). The full rosters follow the jump below, with all locally-notable prospects in BOLD.

Future B1G Players hit BIG shots

Published by Source on March 1st, 2012

If you have watched SportsCenter at all since Tuesday night, you have no doubt seen the video of future Michigan State Spartan Gary Harris hitting a buzzer-beating game winner from near half court. The senior star at Hamilton Southeastern banked in an unbelievable shot from about 35 feet to advance the Royals to the second round of the state playoffs. The losing team, Indianapolis North Central, featured two future B1G players, as well, with Purdue-bound Ronnie Johnson and future Iowa Hawkeye Patrick Ingram (both seniors). Harris finished the game with 35 points and the play of the game, which has been featured as SportsCenter’s #1 Top Play.

But Harris wasn’t the only player to hit a game-winner in Indiana sectionals that night. Future Indiana Hoosier Jeremy Hollowell advanced his Lawrence Central team into the second round with a smooth lay-up in the final seconds of a tie game against Arsenal Tech. While it wasn’t a half-court bank shot, Hollowell made an incredibly impressive play by weaving through defenders into the lane and hitting the shot over Tech’s sophomore sensation Trey Lyles (another future Hoosier). Time expired and Hollowell’s teammates rushed the court in what turned out to be quite an exciting game. What made this shot more amazing is that the game was being played at Arsenal Tech High School. Both videos are linked below, after the jump:

Powerade Fab 50 Preseason List

Published by Source on October 20th, 2011

ESPNHS has released its preseason Powerade Fab 50, a list of the 50 best boy’s high school basketball teams in the country. There are a number of Illinois and Indiana teams on the list, as well as plenty of teams with players committed to or being recruited by B1G and Chicago-area colleges. Here’s the highlights of the list:

1. Simeon Career Academy (Chicago, IL)

- Chicago powerhouse Simeon landed the well-deserved top spot on this year’s list. Behind outstanding junior Jabari Parker, considered by some to be the best player in the 2013 class, the Wolverines lineup features several other highly-touted prospects. Senior Steve Taylor is already committed to Marquette, while junior Kendrick Nunn recently re-opened his recruitment after making an early pledge to Texas A&M. Also joining the group is junior point guard Jaylon Tate, who transferred to Simeon from De La Salle this past summer. Tate has been hearing from most of the B1G already, plus hometown DePaul, and has already landed an offer from Northwestern.

Newest Boilermaker commit: AJ Hammons (2012)

Published by Source on October 14th, 2011

By: Eric Gardner

Late last night, Purdue got a commitment for Oak Hill Academy’s A.J. Hammons.  A.J. is originally from Gary, IN and moved to Carmel, IN before heading out to Virginia.  He was down to Minnesota, Cincinnati, Dayton, and Purdue before last night.  Hammons, at least for the past few months, has been a Purdue lean with the outside chance of going to Minnesota.  Purdue has actually been on him since his freshman year at Carmel High School.  His family is still in the Carmel area and he plays on Spiece’s AAU team out of Fort Wayne.  We have heard reports that he really would like to come closer to home and I think in the end that gave Purdue the overwhelming advantage.

AJ Hammons to Purdue

Published by Source on October 14th, 2011

AJ Hammons, an Oak Hill Academy senior originally from Carmel, Indiana, has committed to Matt Painter and the Purdue Boilermakers. The news was broken last night by ESPN’s Dave Telep. According to Telep, Purdue’s 2012 class now ranks 9th in the nation with the addition of Hammons.

Hammons, who chose Purdue over Cincinnati and Minnesota, is rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com and is ranked #123rd overall in the class. He joins 4-star prospects Ronnie Johnson (#91 overall) and Jay Simpson (#101), plus fellow 3-star Rapheal Davis (#106) as solid four-man recruiting class for the Boilers.
